New Holton Horn Website Now Live

Conn-Selmer is pleased to announce that a new website for Holton horns, www.holton-horns.com, went live on the internet this month. This new website will be the clearing house for all information regarding the Holton Student, Holton Farkas and Holton Merker lines French horns. The site also includes links to other valuable information such as articles written by Phil Farkas, designer and developer of the Holton Farkas French horn, featured Holton artists, along with exclusive performance resources especially for French horn players and teachers. As the website continues to develop, more information and resources will be added.

“Since the early 1960’s, with the help of Phil Farkas and Chief Design Engineer for the Frank Holton Company at the time, Larry Ramirez, a legendary line of French horns was born”, says Mike Kamphuis, director of marketing for background brass.  “Today the Holton Farkas French horns remain to be a sound choice for professionals, educators and students world wide. The new Holton site is dedicated to having as much educational information as it pertains to the horn as well as showing our customer base that Holton truly remains ‘A Sound Choice’ for the performers of today”.

Student/Children’s Holton horns, including the single and double models, feature valve rotors that are tapered. All Holton French horn bells are made with overlapped seams, which is much more durable than bells made with butt seams. This feature produces a better tone and timbre.

Holton Farkas French horns are appropriate for high school and college marching band and orchestral performance. Farkas horns, including the single and double models, also have valve rotors that are tapered with overlapped seams on the bells. The Farkas wrap is similar in some ways to the other wraps, however it is recognized by an independent tuning system which is found on all Holton Farkas and Merker models. This allows a player to tune the Bb-side of the Horn separate from the F-side of the horn or visa/versa.

Holton Merker horns are for players who want an instrument that provides great volume and sonorous tone without sacrificing control in the upper register. By combining an extra-large-throated bell and branch with the innovative Merker dual bore, these horns offer the best of both worlds. Each of the models produces a tone that is exceptionally full, with rich depth that retains its core and timbre qualities.
